UWCs all over the world

More than 9,000 pupils attend one of the 17 UWCs each year. All colleges share basic values such as respect and responsibility, but are embedded in the local environment and have different thematic priorities. Each UWC is entirely unique.

UWC East Africa, Tanzania

 

This College, previously known as the International School of Moshi, is one of the oldest IB schools in the world and is located close to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The closeness to this majestic mountain evokes reverence and serves as a reminder of the heights that a child who enjoys a good education can climb. The UWC Spirit moved in with the pioneer generation in 2019. The school has developed the so-called Outdoor Pursuits Program, where students have the opportunity to get to know the beautiful nature of Tanzania.

UWC ISAK Japan

 

Located in the «Japanese Alps» an hour by train outside of Tokyo, this college offers a leadership program which joins mindfulness and sustainability to innovation. In addition, the school offers courses focusing on Japanese language and culture.

UWC Maastricht, The Netherlands

 

This UWC is located on the outskirts of the cozy medieval city of Maastricht. Maastricht itself is a center for education and culture. The College is co-financed by the Dutch state, as it is intended to serve as a model for the public school sector with its wide range of social activities.

UWC Mahindra College, India

 

The UWC Mahindra College is located in a stunning natural park. The striking mix of modern architecture and local materials by the architect Christopher Charles Benninger has received several awards. All students take a course in Hindi to communicate with the local community.

UWC Atlantic College, Wales

 

The oldest of all UWC Colleges is located on the Welsh Atlantic coast in a medieval castle from the 12th century. Students can work on the college's own organic farm or join the schools coastal rescue team.

Pearson College UWC, Canada

 

The Pearson College UWC in Victoria, Canada, is surrounded by vast coastal forests along the wild, rugged Canadian Pacific coast. The college offers many projects to protect the local flora and fauna. The city of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is nearby.

Waterford Kamhlaba UWC, Swaziland

 

The UWC in the small kingdom of Eswatini played an important role in the anti-apartheid movement. The school has a strong regional focus. From African history to the active support of AIDS orphans, the students can learn about Africa and get involved in projects where help is much needed.

Li Po Chun UWC, Hong Kong

 

The UWC in Hong Kong campus is in the middle of the Chinese metropolis. It is surrounded by a charming landscape overlooking the famous harbour. A special focus lies on teaching Asian history and culture.

UWC Red Cross Nordic, Norway

 

The Norwegian UWC's idyllic location is on the banks of a small fjord, surrounded by forests and mountains on the west coast of the country. One focus is on Nordic history and culture. UWC in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

 

This college is located in the former high school of the city of Mostar. In Mostar, the school is firmly embedded within the city, because the residential buildings are spread all over the small city center. The UWC in Mostar is the first college to specifically aid the rebuilding of a peaceful community after a war.

UWC Robert Bosch College, Germany

 

Founded in 2013, the college is located in the "Green City" of Freiburg, on the edge of the famous Black Forest. The school is particularly strong on themes of sustainability and environmental protection. In addition, a 14th century monastery garden offers the possibility to learn about biological gardening amongst other social activities.

This UWC stands in the 3'000 year old Chinese city of Changshu near Shanghai. In the region surrounding this mega-city there are lakes and mountains. Chinese culture and language as well as the protection of the environment are key themes for this UWC.

UWC Thailand

 

The UWC in Phuket, Thailand opened its doors in the summer of 2016. The special focus of this UWC lies in the traditional Thai culture. The school has also integrated Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Mindfulness in its curriculem.
