Frequently Asked Questions
Naturally the number of applicants varies from year to year but it’s usually somewhere between 20 and 30. There are usually a lot more girls applying than boys.
Our selection process requests that the applicant be about 16 years old. Exceptions to this rule may be possible, but the committee generally keeps to the guideline that the candidates should be 16 or 17 in their first year at one of the United World Colleges.
The chosen candidates cannot decide which UWC they want to attend. This decision is taken by the Committee and depends on different conditions, changing each year: tuition fees, finances available for scholarships, number of selected applicants etc. Of course, the applicant's ideal choice of a UWC place are taken into consideration, but cannot always be fulfilled.
The Swiss National Committee of the UWC holds a strict scholarship-based policy, an applicant may thus only attend a United World College after he or she has been selected by the Committee to receive a full scholarship for the two years at a United World College.
